Opus ’96 Chamber Choir, as the name suggests, is a SATB choir formed by a group of experienced choral singers in 1996 to perform a very wide range of choral music. The choir is made up of members from Tralee and Killarney. Some acclaimed concerts over their many years have been performances of Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man – a Mass for Peace, Gabriel Faurè “Requiem”, William Byrd “Mass for Four Voices” and a concert dedicated to the choral music of Beethoven on the 250th anniversary of his birth. Their director, Martina Ryan Murphy, celebrates 40 years of directing choral music this year. She has been a member of national choirs and performed in a solo capacity for many years also. She specialises in Sacred Music and Irish folk music. She is currently director of The National Folk Choir and The Ardfert Singers Ladies’ Choir. This year’s programme also includes a dedicated tribute to 60 years of The Sound of Music movie.
